I'm amazed at how hypnotized so many people are now days. I have been planning my escape from urban madness to a small farm in a Midwest or Southern U.S. state. I even ended my old career and became a truck driver ... touring the countryside and earning a good living. I'm reading up on permaculture, horticulture, organic farming, et al...
And behold ... every woman I see has her eyes tied to the same old carrot-and-a-stick that Corporate America continues to dangle in front of us despite more off-shore hiring, more downsizing, rumors of recession and even a Global Recession ... even a global water shortage some time before 2014. Economic racism, incresing crime, more police and government scruntiny and controls, higher fuel and utility costs ... and they STILL want to live in the same urban areas where the quality of life continues to decline.
Are others experiencing the same dynamic in other parts of the world or other areas of The States?

Re: Do singles lack imagination in your area?
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 2:13 AMI don't know about other singles, but if I could move, I would... The social scene is very odd where I am, and even though I live in a fairly safe area, it is incredibly dull and boring......I'd rather be in Nova Scotia, any artsy area in the U.K. or Australia, or maybe eve a fair sized Polynesian island-preferably where there are decent amounts of datable singles..But as I keep saying to friends, one is enough, as long as its the right person for me... No, I'm not in love with staying stuck in one place, but then my late grandmother did claim there were tinkers {traveling repair people} somewhere in the family line.... -

Re: Do singles lack imagination in your area?
Sun, September 30, 2007 - 10:50 PMI've been driving truck around the states ... and ... please hear me when I say this ... at my age ... I clearly see that ... I SHOULD HAVE MOVED OUT OF THE SORRY-ASSED BAY AREA LOOOONG TIME AGO!
I just left Newark, NJ ... and ... I'm shocked to see that even in NEWARK.... my life would have been far more nourished than where I stubbornly stayed stuck in.
It's like fishing ... if the fish aren't biting where you are ... and more people are catching other places ... and the mosquitoes are eating you up where you are ... MOVE.
Yes ... there is a lot of truth in the old saying ... "Wherever I go ... I take myself with me." So while it's true that if I am unhappy in Chicago, chances are pretty good that I'll be unhappy after I have moved to Humboldt.
BUT ... If I've done some spiritual work ... looked at my values ... perhaps done some planning on my finances ... the opposite may be just as true. Plus ... I may have been unhappy in Chicago simply because the place was killing me.
So that's my vote ... relocate to places where more of the things that interest you are happening. If you're an urban type, and you decide to move to the country ... and you do your research well ... you will most likely find tons of people looking for someone ... "different." The reverse is just as true ... urban cowboy or cowgirl.

Re: Do singles lack imagination in your area?
Thu, October 4, 2007 - 10:03 AMIn my city, there aren't any such open avenues where singles can actually mingle and hook up. It's quite frustrating.
